The Greenville Area Parkinson Society is always looking for volunteers to help with our programs and community events. Below is a list of the Volunteer Opportunities. We have places for weekly, monthly, or occasional involvement! Click here for a printable application.
Activities Day and Respite Care - This event is every Wednesday from 9:30 am-Noon. We need volunteers to spend time with our PD members so their spouses and caregivers can get a much needed break! Volunteers will join our members in recreational therapy activities, music therapy, playing games and cards, and helping them to participate in the movement sessions. There is no medical experience required from our volunteers, but we do require a one-time, 2-hour certification class to familiarize the respite volunteers with PD and how to best support our members.
Administrative Volunteers - Do you love to organize information, people, or possibly both? Do you enjoy researching online or by phone, doing mailings, cleaning out files? Does checking items off of a “to do” list give you joy? If so, we need you for short-term, as-needed administrative projects.
Community Connection Volunteers - Other organizations in the Upstate frequently invite GAPS to attend their events in order to educate their attendees about our programs. Our volunteers man a table at these community events to pass out GAPS brochures and answer attendees’ questions about our offerings. If you are outgoing, enjoy engaging others in conversation, and have a knack for promoting a good cause, this is the volunteer job for you!
Event Planners - Each year GAPS hosts two fundraisers as well as newly diagnosed retreat days, informational breakfasts, and other events. We need volunteers to help us plan and implement these events. Typical tasks include sending invitations and managing responses, soliciting event sponsorships, reserving event spaces, working with event vendors, recruiting and managing volunteers for the event, lining up event speakers or entertainment, event decorations, and event registration.
GAPS Ambassadors -Do you already find yourself out in the community for your job or other social engagements where health concerns are the topic? If you would be willing to carry GAPS brochures and make sure that people in our churches, assisted living communities, physician offices, and anywhere else around town, know about GAPS and the services we provide, this is the opportunity for you.
Programs and Partnerships are the backbone of GAPS, which provide opportunities for members to exercise, support one another, and to stay involved in their community. Access to these programs helps our members remain positive, vibrant, healthier, and beat back the Parkinson's Disease progression.
Collaborating with local businesses and organizations is vital to develop community awareness, gain financial contributions to help GAPS reach out to those who cope with Parkinson's Disease every day, and continue to provide programs, education, and advocacy every year.
GAPS is a 100% local and independent organization. We rely solely on the support of our community for our financial solvency. Please consider these ways in which you can contribute to the growing impact GAPS is having on those living with PD in the Upstate of South Carolina!
